The definition of energy is the "ability to do work". Since the industrial revolution, we have constantly developed our ability to harness the energy in fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal. This has given us light and heat on demand. It has given us cars, factories, hospitals, and all the other wonderful inventions that we now take for granted and cannot imagine "civilization" without.
Unfortunately, our primary sources of energy- fossil fuels and nuclear fuels are finite resources and as global demand for energy continues to grow daily, global resources of these fuels continue to deplete at the same frightening rate.
Not only are they running out, but the general scientific
consensus is that the burning of fossil fuels to satisfy our insatiable appetite for energy is a major factor in causing changes to the climate that could have a devastating impact on the capacity of our planet to support us and our children.
In the words of Al Gore, "Here is the good news: the bold steps that are needed to solve the climate crisis are exactly the same steps that ought to be taken in order to solve the economic crisis and the energy security crisis." At Capture, we believe part of the solution is renewable energy technologies; harvesting the energy generated from resources that are unlimited, such as wind, water and the sun. Renewable energy is a step towards "having our cake and eating it" it is technology working in harmony with nature, instead of against it.
