Heat Pumps from Capture Energy
Heat pumps, how do they work and why would I want one?
They work in exactly the same way as a refrigerator- it takes heat from a warm place and it moves it to a cold place. The warm place generally being the ground, the air or a a body of water and the cold place being the building you are looking to heat.
Heat pumps are not a "fancy new technology", they are a well established, reliable and proven way of economically providing space and water heating that have been used for many years in Europe and the USA.
Why would I want one?
The major benefit is that they use a small amount of electricity to capture a large amount of heat and deliver it to your home.
Traditional electric heaters are considered 100% efficient as they will consume one unit of electricty to deliver one unit of heat to your home. A modern condensing gas boiler will consume one unit of gas in order to deliver 0.95 units of heat to your home and as such is considered 95% efficient. In the right situation, a ground source heat pump will consume one unit of electricty to deliver 4 units to your hom so they can be considered up to 400% efficient- which can mean 100% of the heat you need, for 25% of the electricty- the net result? lower bills and lower carbon emissions!
What types are available?
Capture provide a comprehensive range of heat pumps- both air source, which collect heat from the ambient air, and ground source which can capture heat from either the ground, or a body of water.
Will it work for me?
If your project is a new build, or your home is already very well insulated; then a heat pump might well be the ideal solution for you- providing you with many years of low cost, low carbon, reliable heating without the hassle of ordering fuel. In older and larger properties, a heat pump is not always the best technology- talk to us and we will advise what will work best in your individual situation.
